Building on the success of the first 3 editions and the growing public interest, the OAI has launched its 4th Bauhärepräis in 2012 to distinguish embodiments in which the couple „owner/designer“ is expresses in a particulaly fruitful way. The award is given to owners who support the architectural quality and contibute, through their outstanding and lasting achievements, to promote a culture of construction, land use and urban planning in Luxembourg.
It is supposed to encourage future owners, to be better informed and more aware of their role, to move beyond a purely functional architecture in order to ensure a cultural revival of our living environment. A jury, composed half of personalities in politics and culture, and half of architects, was responsible for assessing the projects presented and the merits of the owners.
Collaboration with the design team, which is shown in the courage of choosing a contemporary and rigorous architectural advantage, compliance with the existing architectural substance and the surrounding nature, the positive impact on an existing urban fabric and social , the construction of a public space that fosters communication and trade are among the criteria that the jury returned. The indications regarding the relationship between client and designers are also considered among the criteria counted by the jury.
The completed projects submitted by their building owners must have a relationship with Luxembourg or by the address of their owner or by their location in the territory of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. These projects should have been completed after January 1, 2008. Each project owner can have multiple projects.
The projects were presented in one of nine categories:
1. Individual or collective housing: new construction
2. Individual or group housing : renovation and / or transformation
3. Furnishings (home, shop, administrative, ...)
4. Commercial / artisanal / industrial buildings
